Why the GOP rules
In the opinions on Nov. 2, Norm Behling took Emily Mills’ Oct. 29 opinion to task “Dems were rejected.”
He said he was not sure what planet she lives on. He goes on about how it’s the Democrats that need saving, etc. Then he says, “Well Emily, the country has voted, and it seems that what you and your beloved Democrats party think is “right” lost.”
Well, Norm, in a way you are right. President Donald Trump won the Electoral College and became president. On our planet, as you well know, he is still trying to overcome the fact that he lost popular vote by more than 3 million votes.
Here in Wisconsin, the GOP is in power because of gerrymandering. That is a case that is in front of the Supreme Court. They have done everything they can to sway the vote their way, photo ID cards and everything else they can think of to keep the majority from knocking them out of power.
I’m afraid that, that is the truth. The GOP is in power because of huge amounts of money from the rich, the National Rifle Association, the Tavern League and the rest of the big business donations.
