Johnson Controls cuts jobs in Milwaukee area
Company integrating operations after 2016 merger with Tyco
Johnson Controls International plc is eliminating an undisclosed number of jobs in the Milwaukee area as it moves to integrate the operations of the former Johnson Controls Inc. and Tyco International plc.
Fraser Engerman, a company spokesman, confirmed that Johnson Controls was “reducing or eliminating some functions at our Milwaukee locations.”
“We understand this is a difficult time for those impacted by these changes, and Johnson Controls is committed to supporting employees during this time,” Engerman said in an email.
The 2016 merger of Johnson Controls and Tyco was certain to result in job reductions: The companies projected $1.2 billion in savings from the merger by 2020.
The merged company realized $300 million of that goal in its fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2017, according to a Nov. 9 conference call with investors. It projects $250 million in savings in the 2018 fiscal year.
Johnson Controls International reported net income of $1.6 billion, or $1.71 a share, on revenue of $30.2 billion for fiscal 2017.
Although the company met Wall Street’s expectations for its fourth quarter, its stock has fallen about 11% since the call.
The stock, which closed at $41 a share on Nov. 8, closed at $36.39 a share, up 25 cents, on Friday.
