Two charged in shooting incident outside tavern

Domestic assault led to altercation, complaint says

After being confronted for beating his wife outside a tavern on Milwaukee’s northwest side, a man pulled an assault rifle from his car and unleashed a barrage of bullets in all directions, according to a criminal complaint.

Several of the rounds fired by Demond Marlin Griggs, 30, were in the direction of Korey Jermal Griggs, 28, who was standing nearby and firing a handgun into the air, according to the complaint that does not indicate whether the men are related.

Arrest warrants have been issued for Demond Griggs, who faces charges that include endangering safety-use of a dangerous weapon, and Korey Griggs, who is charged with the same crime, along with carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct, according to state court records.

According to the complaint, which was released this week:

The incident began shortly after 1 a.m. Oct. 1 in the parking lot of Brett’s Farmhouse Tavern, 7424 N. 60th St.

Surveillance video shows Demond Griggs repeatedly striking his wife and pulling her hair as she guards the trunk a car.

He then pulls her by the hair to the passenger side of the vehicle and pushes her head into the front passenger window before both of them enter the car.

Demond Griggs then backs up the vehicle before both he and his wife get out and walk toward the trunk. He then forces her back to the front passenger seat, striking her repeatedly.

An unidentified man then appears in the video and confronts Demond Griggs before Korey Griggs, holding a handgun, starts arguing with the unidentified man and shooting into the air.

Demond Griggs is then seen retrieving the assault rifle from the trunk of his car and beginning to fire, the complaint said.
