Packers’ Kendricks faces pot charge, TMZ says
Green Bay Packers tight end Lance Kendricks has been busted for possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the celebrity news website TMZ is reporting.
According to the report: A police officer pulled Kendricks over Sept. 2 after clocking him traveling 81 mph in a 70mph-zone. The arresting officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana, for which Kendricks apologized but at first denied possessing. But then Kendricks admitted it, and the officer found marijuana in the glove box and in a Louis Vuitton bag, along with drug paraphernalia.
TMZ says Hendricks was cited for possessing pot and paraphernalia and was issued a warning for speeding. It did not identify the police jurisdiction but said the case is “in the hands of the Outagamie County District Attorney.”
The Green Bay Press-Gazette could not independently confirm TMZ’s report on Saturday, and online court records show no citations or charges issued.
If convicted, Kendricks could face discipline under the NFL’s substanceabuse policy. The league does not take action in such matters until after the court case is resolved.
Kendricks, a Milwaukee native who played at the University of Wisconsin, signed with the Packers as a free agent in March. He moved into a starting role after the Packers released Martellus Bennett on Nov. 8. Kendricks has 10 receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown this season.
News of Kendricks’ troubles come upon the heels of news last week that Packers rookie running back Aaron Jones was arrested in October under similar circumstances in Brown County.
Jones is awaiting a Feb. 1 court appearance after having been issued traffic citations. He was cited for speeding, operating without a valid driver’s license and operating with a restricted controlled substance.
