Just a warning so far, no charges, after his traffic stop.

APPLETON - Green Bay Packers tight end Lance Kendricks received a warning for speeding but otherwise is awaiting word on whether he’ll be ticketed or face any charges of marijuana possession.

Unless he faces charges, Kendricks said he does not expect punishment from the NFL. Kendricks spoke with the NFL Players Association shortly after the incident, he said, and was told the league is unable to hand down a suspension for violating its substance-abuse policy if there is no arrest or citation.

TMZ originally reported Saturday that Kendricks was cited for marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

“I was actually given a warning for a speeding ticket,” Kendricks said Wednesday. “I wasn’t cited, and I wasn’t arrested. So everything else is not true.”

A state trooper stopped Kendricks on U.S. 41 at Capitol Drive at 1:31 a.m. Sept. 2 after clocking him traveling 81 in a 70-mph zone, according to the trooper’s report. He was driving home from Wisconsin’s football game against Utah State, according to the report.

While the trooper talked to Kendricks through his passenger side window, she smelled a strong odor of marijuana, she said in the report.

She called for backup from Grand Chute police, then asked Kendricks about the odor, she said. Kendricks said he smoked all of what he had, but after she told him she would search, he admitted to having a small amount in the glove box, the trooper said.

The trooper found a small, round Louis Vitton toiletry-type bag containing some marijuana, two packs of rolling papers and a metal grinder, she said. She seized them, then told Kendricks she would refer charges to the Outagamie County District Attorney’s office.

Kendricks was released with just the speeding warning.

“It was a really friendly officer,” Kendricks said. “She was nice enough to tell me I was going 81 in a 70, and she let me go home.”

No charges or tickets have been issued, and the Outagamie County District Attorney’s office didn’t respond Wednesday to a reporter’s questions about whether any would be forthcoming.
