Man charged with killing other driver after crash

-

A traffic crash near a busy Milwaukee intersection ended in a fatal argument and gunfire, prosecutors say.

Timothy Durley Jr., 28, was charged with second-degree reckless homicide in the fatal shooting of Kurt R. Kraenzler.

The men were driving with their girlfriends near West Capitol Drive and North Green Bay Avenue on Nov. 30.

Durley was driving a tan minivan in front of Kraenzler and abruptly made a Uturn, witnesses told police.

Kraenzler, 34, could not stop his red Jeep in time and crashed into the minivan.

Both men pulled to the side of the road, got out of their vehicles and began arguing.

The girlfriends reported hearing the argument, with Durley saying something to the effect of “white people can’t drive” and Kraenzler saying a racial slur, according to the criminal complaint.

Durley then pulled a gun from his pocket and shot Kraenzler once in the chest, the complaint says.

Durley and his girlfriend ran in opposite directions, abandoning the minivan.

Police linked the vehicle to Durley through traffic records. They tracked down his girlfriend, who told police her father had urged her to call authorities right away but she was too scared of Durley to do so.

Durley, who also was charged with being a felon in possession of a gun, is expected in court Friday for a preliminary hearing. He remained in Milwaukee County Jail this week on $15,000 bail.
