Australian diplomat’s tip a factor in FBI’s Russia probe
WASHINGTON – An Australian diplomat’s tip appears to have helped persuade the FBI to investigate Russian meddling in the U.S. election and possible coordination with the Trump campaign, The New York Times reported Saturday.
Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos told the diplomat, Alexander Downer, in May 2016 that Russia had emails that would embarrass Democrat Hillary Clinton, the report said.
Australia passed the information on to the FBI, according to The Times.
MOSCOW – A man was arrested Saturday in connection with a St. Petersburg supermarket bombing that wounded 18 people, Russia’s main domestic security agency said.
