BOYS BASKETBALL

Jacob Bolwerk, Living Word Lutheran: It has been quite a month for the senior guard. Earlier in December, he became the school’s all-time leading scorer. Last week he committed to St. Norbert College and led his team to victories over previously unbeaten Manitowoc Lutheran on Thursday and St. Thomas More on Friday. He averaged 22.5 points, six rebounds and five assists per game in the victories. Against Thomas More he drained a three-pointer in the final minute to tie the game and then a three at the buzzer to win the game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lea Finn, Oak Creek: The senior wing scored a career-high 24 points Thursday in a 67-52 victory over Pius XI in the finals of the Oak Creek Holiday Classic. Finn hit 9 of 14 shots, including 3 of 7 from three-point range, and grabbed four rebounds and made one assist. The performanc­e raised her season averages to 9.6 points, plus 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game for the Knights, who are 9-1 and ranked third in the Journal Sentinel area ranking.

GYMNASTICS

Regan Cassidy, Burlington Combined: Cassidy, a freshman who attends Badger, performed like a veteran in the first big meet of the year. She led her team to a second-place finish at the Frosty Invite on Dec. 16th by winning the balance beam (9.375) and the uneven bars (9.125). Those performanc­es helped her take second in the all-around with a score of 36.525 and helped the team finish second to Franklin Combined with a score of 137.25.

HOCKEY

Jaxson Carr, Arrowhead: The senior forward led the Warhawks to a 4-3 victory over North Shore leader Homestead on Wednesday at home. Carr finished with three goals, two on the power play in the first period. The other came in the third period to push the lead to 4-1 in what was a nonconfere­nce matchup between two of the area’s best teams.

BOYS SWIMMING AND DIVING Ben Davis, Greenfield Co-op: The Oakland (Mich.) recruit won the two longest races at the Metro Swim Officials Invite on Thursday at Homestead, taking the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10 minutes 8.58 seconds, about 111⁄2 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, and then the 500 free in 4:53.34, which was almost 7 seconds ahead of second. Davis’ day also included a fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay and a seventh in a 200 medley relay.

The Lancers sophomore, one of the state’s top Division 2 competitor­s at 138 pounds, won the class at the Mid-States Classic on Thursday at UW-Whitewater. Medora scored a 16-3 major decision in the final over Elkhorn’s Dan Stilling, who is ranked fourth in the weight class in Division 1 according to wiwrestlin­g.com, after knocking off Anthony Lawrence of McHenry (Ill.), 12-3, in the semifinal. Medora, who is ranked No. 2 in Division 2, is 20-0.
