Wisconsin state parks will once again ring in the new year with First Day Hikes at the following parks and trails Jan. 1. Buckhorn State Park, Necedah: Snowshoe or hike the 1.4-mile Central Sands Nature Trail, then enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and treats at the south picnic shelter. Snowshoes available to borrow. 1-3 p.m.
Devil’s Lake State Park, Baraboo: Join a guided hike and warm up around a campfire. Snowshoes available to borrow. 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Harrington Beach State Park, Belgium: Hike any of the park’s trails and stop by the Ansay Welcome Center for a fire, hot beverages and treats. 1-3 p.m. Interstate State Park, St. Croix Falls: Meet at the group camp to hike or snowshoe the Silverbrook and Quarry trails. 9-11 a.m., guided hike at 10 a.m.
Hike the Ice Age and other trails, or ski on the manmade snow loop, then enjoy hot drinks and snacks at the nature center. 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Mirror Lake State Park, Baraboo: Hike 2 miles along the Echo Rock and Sandstone trails. 12-2 p.m.
Newport State Park, Ellison Bay: Meet at parking lot No. 1 to hike 2 miles and enjoy hot beverages at the park office. 10 a.m.-noon
Pattison State Park, Superior: Snowshoe or hike the 2-mile Beaver Trail. 1-3 p.m.
Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek: Hike 1 to 3 miles along the Sunset Bike Trail and Weborg Marsh Trail, then warm up with hot chocolate and cookies. 10 a.m.noon
Perrot State Park, Trempealeau: Hike the Black Walnut Trail and enjoy s’mores and hot cocoa at the Nature Center. 1-2:30 p.m.
Pike Lake, Hartford: Hike or snowshoe 2.5 or 4.5 miles, then warm up with hot chocolate. Leashed dogs are welcome. 12-3 p.m.
Red Cedar State Trail, Dunnville: Meet at the boat landing off County Y at the Dunnville Wildlife area to hike 2 miles. 12-2 p.m.
Richard Bong State Recreation Area, Kansasville: Meet at the visitor center for a 1.5-mile hike. 1-2 p.m. Scuppernong Trails, Kettle Moraine State Forest-Southern Unit: Hike 4 miles. Leashed pets are allowed. 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Stower Seven Lakes State Trail, Amery: Meet near Soo Line Park to hike, fat tire bike or cross-country ski from 1 to 22 miles. A campfire and treats to follow. Snowshoes available to borrow. 10 a.m.noon
Straight Lake State Park, Luck: Hike 1 mile around Rainbow Lake or 2.5 miles along the Ice Age Trail, then enjoy hot chocolate and a fire. Snowshoes available to borrow. 1-3 p.m.
Willow River State Park, Hudson: Hike 2 miles on the Burkhardt Trail. 2-4 p.m.
