Man charged in slaying, stabbing in Oak Creek

An Oak Creek man has been charged in the Dec. 26 stabbing death of Regina Rosebrock and the wounding of her husband, his stepfather.

Stephen Cole, 45, was charged Friday with first-degree reckless homicide and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

Several Oak Creek police officers responded to a family-trouble complaint at 3300 E. Woodview Ave. shortly after 10 p.m. Dec. 26, according to police reports and the criminal complaint.

They found Rosebrock, 62, on the living room floor unconscious with 13 stab wounds. Police and medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but were unsuccessful, the complaint said.

Upstairs, Edwin Rosebrock, 50, the husband of Regina Rosebrock and stepfather of Cole, was found injured and struggling with Cole, the complaint said. Cole attacked Edwin Rosebrock with a knife, and Rosebrock defended himself with a scraper tool.

It was the third time that day police responded to the residence, according to the complaint. Edwin Rosebrock told police his wife had become “fed up” with Cole’s drinking and dumped out several bottles of alcohol belonging to Cole, who also lived in the home.

The first time police responded to the residence, they settled the argument. The second time, police arrested Cole on a marijuana charge and took him to the station, where he was ticketed and released.

Three-way Supreme Court primary will be held Feb. 20

MADISON - A three-way primary will be held next month in the race to replace outgoing state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman.

Three candidates have been running for months and in recent days filed official paperwork to get on the ballot.

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Rebecca Dallet and Sauk County Circuit Judge Michael Screnock filed their nomination papers Friday. Madisonarea attorney Tim Burns filed his Tuesday.

Gableman is part of the 5-2 conservative majority.

Screnock is running as a conservative. Burns and Dallet both spoke at the state Democratic Party convention last year, but Burns has made more explicit appeals to liberals while Dallet has said she is seeking supporters from both parties.

The primary will be Feb. 20. The top two finishers will advance to the April 3 general election.
