Por­trait So­ci­ety Gallery: “Waste Not: Wis­con­sin Self-Taught” shows work by six state artists, in­clud­ing 2016 City of Milwaukee artist of the year Della Wells, glit­ter painter Ro­mano John­son and Jeremy Ward, who cre­ates an­gu­lar wooden masks. 207 E. Buf­falo St., Suite 526.

Tory Fol­liard Gallery: Two artists who bring ab­strac­tion into their ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the beauty of farm land­scapes: land­scape painter Rodger Bech­told and sculp­tor Richard Tay­lor. 233 N. Milwaukee St.

Walker’s Point Cen­ter for the Arts: “31 Emerge,” cu­rated by Howard Leu with rec­om­men­da­tions from com­mu­nity art lead­ers, show­cases 31 ris­ing lo­cal artists, in­clud­ing re­cent Nohl Fel­low­ship win­ner Ari­ana Vaeth and Cesar Chavez Busi­ness Im­prove­ment Dis­trict artist in res­i­dence Erick Ledesma. 839 S. 5th St.

Milwaukee In­sti­tute of Art & De­sign: In “Hu­manly Pos­si­ble: The Em­pa­thy Ex­hibit,” cu­rated by John Schuer­man, a dozen artists present view­ers with work that of­fers a chance to ex­tend their com­pas­sion for hu­man­ity. Lo­cal artists Lois Biele­feld and Raoul Deal are among those in­cluded. 273 E. Erie St.

Nearly 40 gal­leries and art spa­ces are par­tic­i­pat­ing in this quar­ter’s Gallery Night and Day, which takes place Jan. 19 and 20. Hours vary by par­tic­i­pant. Check the com­plete list at his­toric third­ward.org/events/gallerynight. php.

Weather per­mit­ting, “A Toast To Win­ter: MKE Ice Bars” will be­gin on Fri­day. Hand-carved ice bars at St. Paul Fish, Café Benelux and The Wicked Hop will of­fer spe­cial con­coc­tions with a por­tion of pro­ceeds go­ing to char­ity.
