Recommenda­tions for Gallery Night & Day

In addition to Melissa Dorn Richards’ “Mopping Up” exhibit at Frank Juarez Gallery, here are a few other suggestion for Gallery Night and Day on Friday and Saturday:

Portrait Society Gallery: “Waste Not: Wisconsin Self-Taught” shows work by six state artists, including 2016 City of Milwaukee artist of the year Della Wells, glitter painter Romano Johnson and Jeremy Ward, who creates angular wooden masks. 207 E. Buffalo St., Suite 526.

Tory Folliard Gallery: Two artists who bring abstractio­n into their appreciati­on for the beauty of farm landscapes: landscape painter Rodger Bechtold and sculptor Richard Taylor. 233 N. Milwaukee St.

Walker’s Point Center for the Arts: “31 Emerge,” curated by Howard Leu with recommenda­tions from community art leaders, showcases 31 rising local artists, including recent Nohl Fellowship winner Ariana Vaeth and Cesar Chavez Business Improvemen­t District artist in residence Erick Ledesma. 839 S. 5th St.

Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design: In “Humanly Possible: The Empathy Exhibit,” curated by John Schuerman, a dozen artists present viewers with work that offers a chance to extend their compassion for humanity. Local artists Lois Bielefeld and Raoul Deal are among those included. 273 E. Erie St.

Nearly 40 galleries and art spaces are participat­ing in this quarter’s Gallery Night and Day, which takes place Jan. 19 and 20. Hours vary by participan­t. Check the complete list at historic thirdward.org/events/gallerynig­ht. php.

Weather permitting, “A Toast To Winter: MKE Ice Bars” will begin on Friday. Hand-carved ice bars at St. Paul Fish, Café Benelux and The Wicked Hop will offer special concoction­s with a portion of proceeds going to charity.
