PREP SALUTES: THIS WEEK’S AREA ACHIEVEMENTS
BOYS BASKETBALL
Sam Greenthal, Muskego: The junior guard scored a career-high 27 points Friday night when the Warriors knocked Arrowhead out of a share of the Classic 8 Conference lead with a 77-66 victory on the road. Greenthal hit 5 threepointers to help his team improve to 3-5 in the league and 5-6 overall. He ranks second on the team with 12.6 points per game.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Jessa Burling, Burlington: The senior, who is the school’s all-time leading scorer, further etched her name in the record books Friday when she became its all-time leader in rebounds and assists during a 47-36 victory over Delavan-Darien. She finished with 25 points in that game and, according to myracinecounty.com, grabbed 23 rebounds and made three assists. The performance came three days after getting 22 points and 13 boards in a 39-26 victory over Westosha Central. Burling leads the Demons in scoring (16.9 ppg.), rebounding (10.4 rpg.) and assists (2.5 apg.).
GYMNASTICS
Malia Christiansen, Mukwonago/Kettle Moraine/East Troy: The senior won the all-around title at the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational on Jan. 6 with a score of 34.300 to lead her squad to the team title at the eight-team meet. Her performance included a victory in the uneven bars with a score of 8.7. She also took third in the floor exercise (9.10), fifth on the balance beam (8.150) and 11th on the vault (8.350) to help the team post a score of 134.4500. HOCKEY
Andrew Butler, West Bend: The freshman who attends Germantown continues to make his mark. He scored two goals and recorded two assists in the team’s 7-1 victory over Greendale on Tuesday. The performance allowed him to take sole possession of the team’s scoring lead with 24 points (15 goals, nine assists). The game marked the eighth time in 16 contests that Butler has scored at least two points.
BOYS SWIMMING AND DIVING Bryan Fitzgerald, West Bend: The senior was a four-event champion at Cedarburg’s Bulldog Invite on Jan. 6, highlighting his day with a winning time of 1 minute, 45.46 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle that entered Saturday ranked seventh on the top times list compiled by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association. Fitzgerald also won the 500 free in 4:49.12 and anchored the 200 and 400 freestyle relays that won in 1:33.16 and 3:29.83 to establish season bests.
WRESTLING
Dajun Johnson, Whitefish Bay/University School: The junior scored a minor upset in winning the 152-pound title at West Allis Hale’s Bauer Brawl on Jan. 6. He defeated Muskego’s Evan Sinda, 8-2, in the final to improve to 15-3. Sinda entered that week ranked sixth in the weight class in Division 1 by wiwrestling.com. That was six spots ahead of Johnson. The victory capped a day in which Johnson reached the final by scoring a major decision of Hale’s Bryan Jordan in the semifinal and opening the day with a pin of Franklin’s Justin Kleczka.
