Policy earns a promotion
Packers name him COO, general counsel for team
GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers continued their reorganization Wednesday in the wake of President and CEO Mark Murphy taking on more football-related responsibilities.
The Packers promoted vice president and general counsel Ed Policy to chief operating officer and general counsel. He will be responsible for sales, marketing and human resources in addition to his legal duties and overseeing the Titletown District development.
When Murphy promoted Brian Gutekunst to general manager Jan. 8, succeeding Ted Thompson in that role, he also reorganized football operations so that the general manager, director of football operations and head coach all will report to him. Previously, everyone in football operations reported to the general manager.
Policy joined the Packers in 2012 after working with the NFL and as commissioner of the Arena Football League.
“He’s been an outstanding leader for us and has shown tremendous growth in recent years,” Murphy said of Policy in a statement. “His work on Titletown has been excellent, and will be invaluable to the organization and community for years to come.”
Policy spearheads the development of the Packers’ 45-acre Titletown District near Lambeau Field, which includes a park and plaza, the Lodge Kohler hotel, Hinterland Brewery and Bellin Health Sports Medicine and Orthopedics clinic.
The Packers and Microsoft announced plans for TitletownTech, a technology and innovation center expected to open in fall 2018.
Plans call for additional commercial development, townhouses and an apartment building.
“With recent expansion and renovations at Lambeau Field, and planning and opening of Titletown, we have grown in so many ways that are enhancing the organization and community,” Policy said in the statement.
