TIFFANY HADDISH

- — Piet Levy, plevy@journalsentinel.com

Style: Wild, tear-inducing laughs coming from a personal (and often painful) place.

Backstory: "Girls Trip" was the highest-grossing comedy at the U.S. box office last year — and Haddish was a big reason for that big box office. Before the film came out, she was hardly a household name, but her side-splitting portrayal of the hysterically unhinged Dina was one of the breakout performances of the year, earning Haddish the award for best supporting actress from the New York Film Critics Circle. Not surprisingly, she stole the awards show with a wild acceptance

speech that went viral.

Why you should go?: As funny as Haddish was in "Girls Trip," her talk show interviews last year — filled with unbelievably funny takes on her past hurdles (including homelessness, time in foster care and former financial struggles) and current fortunes (including a gut-busting story about enjoying a Groupon swamp tour with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith) — are arguably even funnier than "Girls Trip." So was her Showtime comedy special last fall, "She Ready! From the Hood to Hollywood," which likely will be the basis for much of her Milwaukee show, which is a redo after an East Coast winter storm forced the cancellation of a Pabst Theater appearance scheduled for Jan. 4. Time and place: 8 p.m. Feb. 1, Riverside Theater, 116 W. Wisconsin Ave.

Price: $45 to $55 at the box office, the Pabst Theater box office (144 E. Wells St.), (414) 286-3663 and pabsttheater.org. Tickets purchased for the Jan. 4 show at the Pabst Theater will be honored Thursday.
