Vonn sweeps weekend

-

Lindsey Vonn won her second World Cup downhill of the weekend on Sunday in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, in a perfect dress rehearsal for the Pyeongchang Olympics.

It was the American’s third straight triumph in the discipline after also winning in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, two weeks ago.

“Two wins is as good as it gets, really. It’s just been a perfect weekend,” said Vonn, who plans to compete in downhill, super-G and the combined event at the Olympics.

In a similar scenario to Saturday’s race, Vonn beat Sofia Goggia for the win. The American clocked 1 minute 37.92 seconds on the Kandahar course to beat her Italian rival by 0.11 of a second, after edging her by just 0.02 the day before.

Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein was a hundredth of a second further behind in third.

The Indianapolis Colts say linebacker Edwin Jackson was one of two men killed when a suspected drunken driver struck them as they stood outside their car along a highway in Indianapolis.

The Colts said in a statement Sunday that the team is “heartbroken” by Jackson’s death. The statement says the 26-year-old “was loved by all in the Colts organization.”

State police identified the victims as Jackson, who grew up in Atlanta, and 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe, of Avon, Ind. Police say they were killed when a suspected drunken driver struck them as they stood outside their car along Interstate 70 on Indianapolis’ west side.

Authorities say the driver who struck them before dawn on Sunday tried to flee on foot but was quickly captured. Toxicology results are pending.

NBA

Despite Cleveland’s recent slide and his team’s lack of cohesion, the Cavaliers have no immediate plans to replace head coach Tyronn Lue, a person with direct knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press.

The status of Lue, who led the team to an NBA title in 2016 and three straight Finals appearances, came into question following Saturday night’s 32point home loss to Houston, the latest blowout suffered by a team in disarray. However, Lue’s job isn’t in danger because of the need for “keeping continuity” at this challenging time, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

ESPN first reported that Lue’s job wasn’t in jeopardy.

Cleveland has lost 12 of 18 and have been beaten by at least 24 points in four games during the span.

Colon has 240 career victories in 20 seasons with 10 different teams, including the Montreal Expos. The portly right-hander has posted 21 career wins against Texas, the most by any pitcher.
