A girl who celebrated her first birthday in December died after being rescued from a house fire Saturday night, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department said Sunday.
Milwaukee police and fire departments responded to a house fire Saturday night around 9:45 p.m. in the 2800 block of W. Meinecke Ave. said Deputy Chief Aaron Lipski.
The blaze was in the 2800 block of W. Meinecke Ave. on the city's west side. Firefighters rescued the girl from the first floor of the two-story woodframe house. She died at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
The medical examiner said an autopsy for the 1-year-old girl is planned for Monday.
