Herd claims Jennings off waivers

Brandon Jennings started his NBA career as the No. 10 overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2009 draft. On Tuesday, he became a member of the G League's Wisconsin Herd, which picked up the 28-year-old guard off waivers.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Brandon back to the Bucks organization and introduce him to the Herd family,” Herd general manager and Bucks vice president of basketball operations Dave Dean said. “Brandon has played at the highest levels all over the world and we look forward to him calling Oshkosh home.”

The 6-foot-1 Jennings appeared in 291 games in four seasons with the Bucks, averaging 17.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game. In just his seventh NBA game, Jennings recorded a Bucks rookierecord 55 points on Nov. 14, 2009, against the Golden State Warriors.

The Bucks dealt Jennings to the Detroit Pistons before the 2013-'14 season in exchange for Khris Middleton and Brandon Knight. Since then, Jennings has played for the Pistons, Orlando Magic, New York Knicks and Washington Wizards. This season Jennings played with Shanxi Zhongyu in the Chinese CBA. He appeared in 13 games, averaging 27.9 points, 6.8 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 2.7 steals.

The Herd is off until Feb. 21, when Jennings is expected to make his debut at Menominee Nation Arena against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Jennings returning to the Bucks, though, isn't as likely. The Bucks' roster is full and they would need to cut a player — and eat the remainder of a guaranteed contract — to clear a spot for Jennings or anyone else.
