CAMP REPORT

- Todd Rosiak

On the field: Things have dried out in Maryvale since an all-day rain Wednesday, and the team was able to get in another spate of bullpen sessions. Making his first appearance in front of Brewers brass Friday was left-hander Wade Miley, whose signing was officially announced by the club earlier in the day.

Weather: 59 degrees, mostly cloudy.

Cactus juice: The Brewers have a new big-name fan in former University of Oklahoma quarterback and 2017 Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield, who tweeted a couple pictures of him wearing Milwaukee garb and posing with outfielder Christian Yelich at a workout facility in California earlier in the month. On Friday, Yelich explained the genesis of the athletes’ high-powered pairing. “We’re pretty good friends,” Yelich said. “We’ve been working out at the same facility. He played in the Rose Bowl and he stayed out there; a lot of NFL guys come train there. I ended up getting traded to the Brewers and he went and got a bunch of Brewers stuff, so he’s repping the Brewers pretty good this year.

“But he’s a good dude and I definitely am looking forward to seeing what happens with his future and where he can go.”

Scoreboard: The Brewers begin the exhibition season on Friday, Feb. 23, with split-squad games against the Chicago Cubs at Maryvale Baseball Park and the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale. Both games are at 2:05 p.m. Central.

Countdown: 40 days until the Brewers season opener on March 29 in San Diego.
