CAMP REPORT

On the field: With all players needing to report by Monday, the last two holdouts — Ryan Braun and Orlando Arcia — made their first spring appearances.

Arcia made it to Maryvale in the morning, while Braun rolled in around 1:30 p.m.

With the Brewers wanting to try him at first base in camp to see if he can potentially play there on occasion during the regular season, Braun said he has been preparing by taking ground balls during workouts at Pepperdine University with other major-leaguers.

"It’ll definitely be different from what I’m used to," he said. "It’s been 10 years since I’ve taken ground balls. I’ll bring a couple of extra gloves out there with me. We’ll figure it out as we go.

"I don’t know exactly what the plan is as far as how often I’ll be at what position. But it’s something I’m looking forward to. And if I’m more versatile, ultimately it should be something that helps our team in a lot of different ways."

Arcia was also one of seven players to agree to terms on contracts for 2018. He joined catcher Manny Piña, first baseman Jesús Aguilar and pitchers Brandon Woodruff, Josh Hader, Taylor Williams and Jorge Lopez.

Cactus juice: The entertainment level in the Brewers' clubhouse ratcheted up a few notches on Monday morning with the appearance of Christopher Pérez, the four-year-old son of utility man Hernán Pérez.

Known for his spot-on impersonations of players' batting stances, the youngster spent part of his morning hiding under a table near his father's locker and playing hideand-seek with first-base coach Ed Sedar.

Then, as players were wrapping up for the day, he found his way to a chess board marked with a sign that said, 'Game in progress — do not touch.' Not long thereafter, he'd rearranged all the pieces to his liking.

Jeremy Jeffress, whose match with Boone Logan was the one that was altered, laughed and said, "The game was over anyway. I lost."

Scoreboard: The Brewers begin the exhibition season on Friday, with split-squad games against the Chicago Cubs at Maryvale Baseball Park and the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale. Both games are at 2:05 p.m. Central.
