Months of closures on High Rise Bridge start this week
It’s time for the busy High Rise Bridge carrying I-43/94 traffic through Milwaukee to get spruced up.
Installing a new concrete overlay on the northern section at the Marquette Interchange will mean lane and ramp closures starting this week and ending by late summer, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The Hoan Bridge will get busier — it’s the primary detour route for traffic on I-43 north to the east and I-794 to the south during the project.
Traffic will be reduced from three to two lanes in each direction on the High Rise Bridge starting Thursday, depending on the weather. It’s possible the work might get pushed back a day because the Milwaukee forecast calls for rain Wednesday night switching to wet snow early Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Sullivan.
Here’s what’s closing:
❚ I-94 east to I-43 south, Thursday until late July
❚ I-794 west to I-43 south, Thursday until late June
❚ 11th St. and Wisconsin Ave. on-ramp to I-43 south, Thursday until late May
❚ I-43 north to I-794 east and Plankinton Ave. exit ramp, Friday until early May
❚ Mineral St./National Ave. on-ramp to I-43, Friday until late August
❚ I-43 north to I-94 west, early May to late June
❚ I-43 north to 10th St. and Michigan St. exit ramp, early May to late June.
