CAMP REPORT

-

On the field: Jhoulys Chacín surrendered a two-run home run to Jason Kipnis three batters into the game, and the Brewers trailed the rest of the day in an eventual 6-2 loss to the Cleveland Indians at Maryvale Baseball Park.

Chacín (1-1) allowed three hits and two walks with a strikeout in what was otherwise an OK performance for the righthander. Yovani Gallardo, meanwhile, allowed four hits, three runs and three walks with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain had two-hit days for the Brewers' offense with Yelich scoring two runs and Cain driving him in once.

Weather: 65 degrees, partly cloudy.

Cactus juice: Chacín took the homer he surrendered to Kipnis in stride because Kipnis came into the game batting .636 with four homers and eight RBI. Chacín got ahead of Kipnis, 0-2, before Kipnis sent a fastball out to right-center. "(Jesús) Aguilar told me after that he has, like, five homers," said Chacín. "I said, 'You should have told me before. I would have thrown something different — a breaking ball, a slider or something.' Anything."

Scoreboard: Indians 6, Brewers 2. Record: 7-3-1. Monday: Off day. Tuesday: Brewers at White Sox, 2:05 p.m. Milwaukee LHP Wade Miley (0-0, 0.00) vs. Chicago RHP Reynaldo Lopez (0-0, 4.50). Webcast: Brewers.com.

Countdown: 24 days until the Brewers' season opener March 29 in San Diego.
