Badgers drop WCHA final
Sidney Peters stopped 31 of 32 shots as Minnesota beat the top-ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team, 3-1, in the WCHA tournament championship game Sunday at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.
Delaney Drake scored the only goal for UW (304-2) at 4:19 of the first period. It was her first career goal.
The Badgers had several scoring chances in the third period.
“I thought we played well, we had 30-plus shots and we didn’t have a power-play opportunity,” UW coach Mark Johnson said. “I thought the effort was there, I thought we competed hard, and we just didn’t create enough opportunities to get one by her (Peters) today.”
Taylor Wente, Taylor Williamson and Nicole Schammel scored for the No. 7 Gophers (24-10-4).

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost another big man as the team said starting center Tristan Thompson sustained a sprained right ankle during Saturday’s loss and is expected to miss “multiple games.”
Thompson’s loss is another blow to the defending Eastern Conference champions, who are struggling without all-star forward Kevin Love (broken hand).
Thompson was injured when he was stepped on in a 126-117 loss to the Nuggets.
