Man confesses to killing 19-year-old woman

-

A man walked into a Milwaukee police station Sunday and said he’d killed a woman at his home and said she was wrapped up in a shed outside his house.

Officers went to the address in the 3300 block of North 22nd Street and found the body of a 19year-old woman, wrapped in a sheet and bound with belts inside the man’s shed. She’d been stabbed and badly beaten in the head.

John F. Gillum, 29, was charged Wednesday with first-degree intentional homicide and second-degree sexual assault.

He told detectives that after an exchange of messages, the woman, identified by police as Morgan M. Huennekens, came to his house Saturday and agreed to sex acts for $160. Gillum said he had only $200 and Huennekens didn’t have change, according to the criminal complaint.

At some point, he said, he hit Huennekens in the face with both fists, then tied her up and raped her before stabbing her in the neck, like he said he’d seen done on TV. When he sensed she was suffering, he said, he crushed her skull with a pipe.

Gillum “further stated that the victim did tell him to stop and that she was scared and that she begged for her life. The defendant stated that he took this into consideration, but that once he punched her it all happened in one wave.”

A GoFundMe page has been established to raise money for a memorial at Huennekens’ funeral and to support causes she promoted.
