CAMP REPORT
On the field: Junior Guerra made his fifth appearance of the spring and pitched well after a messy first inning in which an error led to three runs by the Dodgers. Guerra went 42⁄3 innings, allowing four hits and three runs (two earned) with two walks – both in the first inning – and four strikeouts.
Guerra has a 2.45 ERA for the spring.
“In the first inning, I just wasn’t comfortable yet,” Guerra said. “I was a little bit all over the place. I got more comfortable as the game went on.”
Guerra said his agent told him over the off-season that he has a rare fourth minorleague option, which could work against him making the club.
“That’s their decision,” he said. “I can’t control that.”
Ji-Man Choi continued his banner camp (.435 BA, 1.433 OPS) with a grand slam, and 2017 first-round pick Keston Hiura also carried on with his strong spring (.417, 1.023) with his first home run.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 76 degrees.
Cactus juice: The Brewers’ clubhouse was still buzzing Monday morning about the odd triple play that Travis Shaw hit into the previous day against Cleveland. He hit a basesloaded infield pop near third base that Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez shorthopped, tagging Steven Vogt retreating to the bag, then tagging the bag and throwing to second for three outs.
“I don’t know what I was supposed to do there,” third base coach Ed Sedar quipped. “They could have got five outs on that play.”
How strange was the play? There hasn’t been a 5-5-4 triple play in the majors during the regular season since 1927.
