Bucks sign Jennings to full deal

- Matt Velazquez

DENVER - Point guard Brandon Jennings has been back with the Milwaukee Bucks since March 11 when he signed the first of two 10-day contracts. Jennings locked down a more long-term deal on Sunday, signing a multi-year contract.

“It feels great for me,” Jennings said following shootaround at the Pepsi Center ahead of Milwaukee’s game against the Denver Nuggets. “We’re about to go into the postseason, I get another crack at the playoffs again and I’m just excited.

“Now that I’m here, now I can breathe a little bit and now I can just be myself and play more and just be who I am.”

Jennings’ deal keeps him with the Bucks on a guaranteed contract for the remainder of this season, including being eligible for the playoffs. His contract for next season is not guaranteed, although that allows him to stick with the team during the summer, into training camp and potentially into next season.

“I think it’s just all the hard work that I put in when I was in China, getting myself back healthy and getting my (mentality) right,” Jennings said.

In 10 games for the Bucks this season, Jennings was averaging 5.5 points, 3.3 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 15.3 minutes heading into Sunday’s game.

Jennings’ most noteworthy performance came in his first game back — marking his return to the organization that drafted him in 2009 with the 10th overall pick — when he nearly recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds in a 121-103 win over the Memphis Grizzlies at FedEx Forum.

While he has been the primary backup point guard, Jennings’ role is likely to change. Injured point guards Malcolm Brogdon and Matthew Dellavedova are expected back soon.
