Traveling Beer Garden pumped to start May 16

- Kathy Flanigan

It’s a rite of spring like the first robin and opening day — Milwaukee County Parks releases its Traveling Beer Garden schedule.

The season opens May 16 for the Roll Out the Barrel tour and the Pass Me a Pint tour.

The Pass Me a Pint tour kicks off at Juneau Park May 16 and stays through May 28.

That’s followed by stops at Kletzsch Park in Glendale May 30 through June 10; Froemming Park in Franklin June 13 through 24; McCarty Park in West Allis June 27 through July 8; Jackson Park July 11 through 22; Lake Park July 25 through Aug. 5; Hales Corners Park in Hales Corners Aug. 7 through 19; Currie Park in Wauwatosa Aug. 22 through Sept. 3; and a pop-up beer garden at Trimborne Farms in Franklin Sept. 7 through 9.

The Roll Out the Barrel tour launches at Greenfield Park in West Allis through June 3. That’s followed by stops in Bender Park in Oak Creek: June 6 through 24; Grant Park in South Milwaukee June 27 through July 15; Doctors Park in Fox Point July 18 through Aug. 5; and Juneau Park Aug. 8 through Sept. 3. Roll Out the Barrel stops are now three weeks.

Beers will cost $14.50 for a liter with the glass and $9.50 for a refill. Pints will cost $6.50 with the glass or $5.50 for a refill.

The familiar repurposed emergency vehicles will pump out Sprecher Brewery beer and soda as always, but there are some new features in the parks.

On opening nights, special events and weekends, the Iron Grate BBQ food truck will roll up to the beer gardens. Other days, there will continue to be pretzels, bratwurst and Polish sausages for sale.

Also available this year is the Oak Leaf, a flight of all 12 beers in Sprecher’s Traveling Beer Garden.

The flight will be served on an oakleaf-shaped board. Flights will cost $28.
