Appalling Cubs fans

-

I am a native Chicagoan and lifelong Cubs fan who is appalled at the behavior of my fellow Chicagoans and Cubs fans at Miller Park (“Fans fight in upper deck at Miller Park,” April 7).

I think more Milwaukeeans should come to Chicago and more Chicagoans should visit Milwaukee: We have far more in common, with common interests at stake, than either city has with the rest of their respective states. I have been to see the Brewers in County Stadium (being a baseball buff, I couldn’t resist visiting where the mighty Braves had played) and in Miller Park, and it’s always a pleasure.

It’s just bad manners to go to another team’s stadium and root for your team in anything less than a polite and subdued manner. I remember back in the late ’80s when it was impossible to see the Bulls in Chicago. The president of the company I worked for in Milwaukee would take me to the Bucks games when the Bulls were in town and I was appalled back then at the behavior of some Chicago fans who made the journey up to Milwaukee to see the Bulls and used it as an opportunity to act like jerks.

Milwaukeeans are some of the nicest and friendliest people around and don’t deserve to be treated to the ignorant behavior of a few ne’er do wells who don’t know how to conduct themselves in a civilized way. We’re not all like that! Of course, I want to see the Cubs win (still pinching myself because I never thought I would see what I saw in 2016), but I wish the Brewers good luck and success.
