Busch brothers lead pack

-

NASCAR points leader Kyle Busch edged older brother Kurt Busch by 0.002 of a second Friday to take the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

It marks the third time the Busch brothers have started on the front row together, and the first since 2013. In all three cases, Kyle started first and Kurt second.

“He always told everybody if you think I’m good, just wait for my younger brother,” joked Kyle Busch.

Kyle Busch is coming off a victory last week at Texas Motor Speedway.

“Two Busches on the front pole ain’t too bad,” Kurt Busch said.

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference canceled its conference tournament due to inclement weather throughout the region this spring.

“Since the conference doesn’t have an automatic qualifier this year, it made more sense to give all of our teams more opportunities to play their conference games,” said WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner. “Rescheduling these games on top of the current games that already need to be rescheduled, would have resulted in a significant amount of missed class time and additional travel costs.”

HOCKEY

Sean Couturier had a goal and two assists, Brian Elliott stopped 34 shots and the visiting Philadelphia Flyers cooled off the Pittsburgh Penguins, 5-1, to even their first-round series at a game apiece.

Shane Gostisbehere, Travis Konecny, Andrew McDonald and Nolan Patrick also scored for the Flyers.

Patric Hornqvist scored Pittsburgh’s lone goal with just over 5 minutes left.

Wild 3, Admirals 0: Pat Cannone, Cal O’Reilly and Kyle Rau scored as Iowa turned back visiting Milwaukee.

Iowa goaltender saves.
