Milwaukee police Friday arrested one of at least three people who were speeding in a stolen Jeep Liberty that ran a stop sign and hit a car Thursday night, killing a passenger in the car and injuring the car’s driver.

The car, a Hyundai Sonata, hit a house after the crash at 6:12 p.m. at W. Walnut and N. 33rd streets , police said.

The people in the Liberty fled on foot after the crash, police said.

A boy was taken into custody and at least two more males are being sought, Sgt. Sheronda Grant said.

Investigators released photos of two of the suspects that were taken by surveillance cameras in the area and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.

The Liberty was traveling west on W. Walnut St. when it hit the Sonata, which was heading north on N. 33rd St., police said.

Sylvia L. Tiwari, 65, of Milwaukee, a passenger in the Sonata, died at the scene, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office said. The driver of the Sonata, a 48year-old woman believed to be Tiwari’s daughter, was being treated at a hospital for severe injuries and is in critical condition.

The Police Department is investigating whether the Liberty was the target of a vehicle pursuit that was initiated and terminated by the Suburban Violent Crimes Task Force. The vehicle was not being pursued at the time of the accident, police said.
