The firm that will operate Milwaukee’s streetcar, The Hop, will host a job fair Wednesday to fill more than 20 new positions.

The firm, Transdev, needs to hire for streetcar operators and other positions as The Hop finishes construction.

Testing is planned to start along the full initial route in July. Public service is expected to begin in November.

The job fair and open house will be held Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m. at the streetcar operations and maintenance facility, 450 N. 5th St.

Transdev will discuss the openings with applicants and conduct initial interviews during the event. Applicants should bring copies of their resume and dress in business or business casual attire.

The company said salaries for the positions — technical training and mass transit vehicle experience preferred — will range generally from $40,000 to $65,000 a year.

Transdev is expected to employ about 30 people to run The Hop. Most of those jobs are for streetcar operators. The company is also looking for streetcar supervisors, a safety trainer/supervisor, an administrative generalist and facility maintenance technicians.

Transdev will also take applications and discuss the openings Thursday at the Milwaukee Career Expo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wisconsin State Fair Park.

Another firm, Brookville Equipment Corporation, is hiring an equipment maintenance technician.
