CUBS 3, Rockies 2: Jon Lester pitched effectivel­y into the sixth inning, continuing an impressive stretch for Chicago’s rotation and helping the Cubs beat Colorado for their season-high fifth straight victory. NATIONALS 4, Pirates 3: Tanner Roark pitched seven efficient innings and drove in his first run since 2016 and Washington defeated Pittsburgh. Brewers 6, REDS 5: Homers by Manny Pina and Lorenzo Cain ended Milwaukee’s historical­ly bad slump, and Domingo Santana doubled home the go-ahead runs to lead the Brewers over Cincinnati. MARLINS 8, Phillies 4: Brian Anderson homered, drove in four runs and made a diving catch in right field with the bases loaded to preserve a lead, helping the Miami beat Philadelph­ia. RED SOX 10, Royals 6: Xander Bogaerts hit a grand slam over the Green Monster and Boston finished April with their most wins ever by beating Kansas City. Rays 3, TIGERS 2: C.J. Cron and Brad Miller each homered in the ninth inning and Tampa Bay held on to defeat Detroit after the Tigers loaded the bases in the ninth. ASTROS 2, Yankees 1: Charlie Morton pitched two-hit ball into the eighth inning and struck out 10 as Houston snapped New York’s nine-game winning streak. Blue Jays at TWINS (late): RHP Aaron Sanchez (1-2, 3.69) takes the mound for Toronto after striking out a season-high eight in his last start and allowing two runs over six innings. Dodgers at D-BACKS (late): Los Angeles placed right fielder Yasiel Puig on the 10-day disabled list Sunday with a left hip pointer and bruised foot. Puig was initially injured during the first game of a doublehead­er Saturday against San Francisco. Padres at GIANTS (late): Right-hander Jeff Samardzija (1-1, 6.23) is slated to start for San Francisco against San Diego, but he has struggled since coming off the disabled list and was roughed up for six runs in 3 2⁄3 innings of his most recent outing.
