$65 million Pewaukee proposal
The Pewaukee Golf Club could get a makeover into an athletic and residential community.
CITY OF PEWAUKEE – The Pewaukee Golf Club could be getting a complete makeover with the proposal of a $65 million, 144-acre athletic and residential community.
The project includes plans for a 2,500-seat baseball stadium, five or six lacrosse fields, a nine-hole golf course, public market, restaurant and two apartment complexes comprising 410 living units.
The proposal, named the Lake Country Commons, is expected to go before the plan commission Thursday.
The planned site is off Golf Road between Meadowbrook Road and Grandview Boulevard.
The proposal comes from Diamond Club Entertainment LLC, which was formed in February by Tom Kelenic, who is also the owner of the Five Diamonds and NX Level sports complex in the town of Waukesha.
Kelenic’s son, Jarred, trains at NX Level and likely will be drafted to a Major League Baseball team this summer.
The baseball stadium in the center of the proposal would have a capacity of up to 3,500 with 2,500 seats, which, according to the proposal, could be used by Pewaukee High School, local universities and USA Baseball.
A year-round restaurant would be incorporated or adjacent to the baseball stadium.
Overlooking the baseball complex would be a 200-unit market-rate apartment complex, according to the plans. Directly to the west would be a 210-unit senior living complex.
Each apartment complex would include its own clubhouse/community center.
The golf course would occupy the north half of the property.
On the west side would be at least five lacrosse fields. Some of the fields would be multipurpose for other sports such as soccer.
The proposal indicates that Amplify Lacrosse would use the fields for its select team leagues for boys ages 10 and older.
A four-story multipurpose building and public market are proposed on the southwest corner of the proposal.
The market, dubbed the Lake Country Public Market in the proposal, would have various vendors for fresh and artisan foods, cafes and farm-to-table products.
The Lake Country Recreation Trail would run through the southern end of the 144-acre property.
Near the trail, there would also be a park and community gardens.
