PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Trey Krause, Burlington: The junior drove in the deciding run in a 4-3 victory over Wilmot on the road last Tuesday. Krause went 3 for 3 with two RBI. He also pitched for 52⁄3 innings and struck out nine. The performanc­e set the state for a big week for the Demons, who swept Wilmot, the leaguelead­er entering the week, and DelavanDar­ien, to win their third straight Southern Lakes title.

Honorable mention

Jeff Holtz, Arrowhead: The Indiana recruit went 6 for 16 (.375) in five games last week to help the Warhawks clinch their fifth straight conference title. Three of Holtz’s hits were home runs, pushing his total to seven for the season. He entered the week hitting .545.

Jeff Hynes, Brookfield Academy: The senior catcher helped the Knights move closer to the Midwest Classic title by leading them to two league victories. The key contest was a 4-1 victory over Living Word Lutheran. Hynes went 1 for 3 with a triple and two RBI. A day earlier, he went 2 for 4 with three runs in a 22-2 win over Messmer. He entered the week hitting .500 with 19 RBI.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Milwaukee Bradley Tech: The Trojans entered the week on the verge of an undefeated season in the City Gold Division. They were 14-0 with a game scheduled against Milwaukee South on Monday. The team went 4-0 last week with victories over South, Washington, Vincent and Languages by a combined score of 32-1. On Thursday they swept games with Vincent and Languages with the Dixon brothers each tossing no hitters. Domonique, a freshman, struck out nine in an 8-0 victory over Vincent. Ken, a sophomore, followed with 10 strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Languages. Ken Dixon had five RBI in the two games and is second on the team with a .531 average. Junior Daniel Santiago entered the week leading the team in batting average (.618) and RBI (19).

COMING UP

Kenosha St. Joseph vs. Martin Luther at Carthage College, 4 p.m. Tuesday: Entering the week Martin Luther led St. Joseph by one game in the Metro Classic.

Kenosha Tremper at Arrowhead, 4:30 p.m. Wednesday: The area’s top two teams get primed for the postseason in a non-conference matchup.

Burlington at Catholic Memorial at

Infinity Field, 4:30 p.m. Tuesday: The Southern Lakes champion visits one of the state’s top Division 2 teams.

WIAA postseason: Tournament plays begins in Division 2-5 on Wednesday. Division 1 regionals begin May 29.
