Ailing Darvish sidelined

-

The Chicago Cubs placed Yu Darvish on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with right triceps tendinitis, continuing a rough season for the right-hander.

Darvish is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA in his first season after finalizing a $126 million, six-year deal with the Cubs in February. He was slated to start the series finale against the Giants on Sunday night, but Tyler Chatwood will move up a day to take his place.

The 31-year-old Darvish had been showing signs of a turnaround, pitching six innings of twohit ball last Sunday at Cincinnati for his first win with his new team. He has allowed just two runs and five hits in his last 10 innings.

Hip injury benches Holland: The St. Louis Cardinals placed struggling reliever Greg Holland on the disabled list with a right hip impingement.

The Cardinals made the move after Holland’s ERA ballooned to 9.45 following a bumpy inning of work Friday night in an 8-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Holland, a threetime all star, allowed two runs on three hits. He has surrendered two runs in each of his last four appearances.

Manager Mike Matheny gave no timetable for Holland’s possible return.

Prado goes on the DL: Miami Marlins third baseman Martin Prado was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

The move came after Prado was hurt Friday night running out a grounder against Washington.

Manager Don Mattingly said there’s no timetable yet for the return of the 34-year-old Prado, who will undergo further tests. But he’s batting only .194, and the latest injury could be career-threatening after hamstring and knee issues limited him to 37 games last year.
