7 new TV shows you don’t want to miss
In the dog days of summer, finding a good show to watch ain’t easy.
But here are seven new and returning TV offerings that are anything but that.
‘Pose’ June 3 (Sundays, 8 p.m.), FX
Ryan Murphy’s latest takes viewers back to New York City in 1980s and the world of drag balls, prostitution and Wall Street excess, boasting what FX says is the largest cast of transgender actors in regular roles.
‘Dietland’ June 4 (Mondays, 8 p.m.), AMC
Based on Sarai Walker’s bestselling 2015 novel, this twisty dramedy doubles stars Joy Nash as Plum, a plussize writer who answers letters to the editor (Julianna Margulies) of a vapid beauty magazine.
‘Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger’ June 7 (Thursdays, 7 p.m.), Freeform
In Marvel’s latest TV venture, two teens from different backgrounds discover they have connected superpowers: She (Olivia Holt) can emit light daggers, and he (Aubrey Joseph) engulfs people in darkness and can teleport.
‘Yellowstone’ June 20 (Wednesdays, 8 p.m.), Paramount Network
In this series from Oscar-nominated screenwriter Taylor Sheridan (“Wind River,” “Hell or High Water”), Kevin Costner plays a steely patriarch whose ranch is threatened by developers, and Gil Birmingham is a Native American chief who’s hungry to reclaim his people’s land.
‘Sharp Objects’ July 8 (Sundays, 8 p.m.), HBO
Adapted from “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn’s 2007 novel, and directed by “Big Little Lies’ ” Jean-Marc Vallée, the eight-episode series stars Amy Adams as a journalist who returns to her hometown to cover the violent murder of two teen girls.
‘Castle Rock’ July 25 (Wednesdays), Hulu
How would it look if Stephen King characters were set loose in the same Maine town where many of his best horror-mystery novels are set? Something like this psychological thriller, about a lawyer (André Holland) who returns to the town of Castle Rock to represent a Shawshank prison inmate (Bill Skarsgård).
‘Making It’ July 31 (Tuesdays, 9 p.m.), NBC
The next best thing to a “Parks and Recreation” revival: a reality competition hosted by Leslie and Ron themselves, Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman. Contestants compete in craft areas such as painting, drawing and doll-making to be crowned the “Master Maker.”
