-

GIRLS ATHLETE OF THE DAY

Destiny Huven, Nicolet: The Knights junior won her second straight Division 1 state title in the 100-meter hurdles and nearly pulled off an impressive triple by winning that event, the 100 dash and 400 relay.

After a 26-minute break between the hurdles and the 100, Huven finished fifth in the 100 in 12.41 seconds then came back to anchor the 400 relay to victory in 47.91.

“There is a lot to do with mental and preparing yourself preseason," she said. "No matter how much technique you do it all comes down to a matter of will power and what you want, so I really tried to win my race and focus on myself."

BOYS ATHLETE OF THE DAY

Justin Kotarak, Muskego: The Warriors senior was a part of scoring 30 points en route to a third-place team finish for Muskego.

Kotarak opened his day by anchoring the Warriors' 800 relay as it defended its Division 1 state title as well as setting a state record, leaning across the line in 1:26.82.

"It was just wanting to come out here and all that you see is gold," Kotarak said. "That’s all we saw and it’s all we wanted. We were pushing for state records."

He then was a part of the 400 relay consisting of the same four runners that later claimed first place. Muskego took second place in the 400 relay one year ago.

Kotarak then capped off his day by winning the 200 in 21.87.
