RECRUITING

Shemera Williams cuts college choices to 10, including MU

- Mark Stewart

Milwaukee Academy of Science senior Shemera Williams brightened the day of a select group of college coaches Monday evening.

The 5-foot-9 guard with impressive athleticism, crazy range and great vision, announced her top 10 schools on Twitter. Fans of state hoops will be happy to know that Big East regular-season co-champion Marquette is on the list, though there is plenty of competition for her services.

Here is her top 10 as she listed them: Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Virginia, Marquette, Minnesota, DePaul, Arizona State, Kansas State and West Virginia.

Georgia (No. 19) and DePaul (No. 23) finished the year ranked in the final ESPN coaches top 25 poll. Marquette, Minnesota and Virginia received honorable mention in the rankings.

Trimming her list of schools is a big step in Williams’ recruitment, but bigger decisions are on the horizon before she makes a commitment. If Williams is like most recruits, she’ll trim her list again late in the summer and begin taking official visits to the schools she likes the most.

Williams, who led the nation in scoring as a junior last season with 39.9 points per game, is playing with the Wisconsin Playground Elite program this summer.
