Developer pays $3.2 million for Third Ward site

Joseph adds another area project to his list

- Rick Romell

A company connected with Milwaukee developer Robert Joseph has purchased a key building in the Historic Third Ward for $3.2 million.

The Joseph-related firm has bought the former Jennaro Bros. produce warehouse, 322 N. Broadway.

Joseph said in 2016 that he would buy the four-story building and convert it into offices and restaurant space. His Joseph Property Development LLC has been working on the renovation for at least the last year.

Redevelopment of the long-vacant structure, which has a large metal awning characteristic of buildings on Milwaukee’s former Commission Row, fills a gap in the thriving Third Ward area.

Joseph has been an active developer there. His commercial projects include 301 Commission Row, a historic conversion with retail and office space at 301315 N. Broadway. The building, just across the street from the former Jennaro Bros. warehouse, is anchored by an Anthropologie store.

Joseph also has converted two historic neighborhood buildings into condos: Lofts on Broadway, 191 N. Broadway, and Warehouse 525, 525 E. Chicago St., and has developed apartment buildings in the area.

Joseph’s latest building was purchased from Jennaro Bros. Inc. by 322 Broadway LLC, real estate records filed with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue show. Joseph is registered agent for 322 Broadway LLC.

The city most recently assessed the structure and its land at $1 million.
