Menomonee Valley adding Bachman Furniture

- Tom Daykin

The Menomonee Valley’s growing home decor and design district is adding another business: Bachman Furniture Gallery.

Bachman Furniture will move to a 60,000-square-foot building in Milwaukee at 1741 W. St. Paul Ave., it was announced Thursday. The 98-year-old business has operated at 6800 W. Capitol Drive since 1958.

The restored building, which Bachman Furniture is buying from LCM Funds Real Estate, will better showcase its European-designed items, according to the announcement.

LCM Funds is seeking complementary businesses for adjacent space that it owns.

“Our business is design. I have never really felt like we are a big box type of furniture store,” Joe Bachman, president and owner, said in a statement.

Moving the showroom to the new St. Paul Avenue Design District better reflects that vision, he said.

Also, the Menomonee Valley location includes easy access to I-94 and a parking lot.

The valley building’s renovations are to be completed by late 2018.

Bachman Furniture joins BBC Lighting, Brass Light Gallery, House of Stone, ProStar Surfaces, Riverview Antique Market and Guardian Fine Art Services, on West St. Paul Avenue, west of I-94’s High Rise Bridge.

The new store is one of 22 buildings

that are part of the St. Paul Avenue Industrial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Bachman’s move to St. Paul Avenue firmly establishes the district as a design destination, the best place in our region for lighting, counter tops, flooring, antiques, and now fine furniture,” said Corey Zetts, executive director of Menomonee Valley Partners, a nonprofit group that leads valley redevelopment work.

West St. Paul Avenue, between North 5th and North 27th streets, is among six key valley areas targeted for redevelopment by a design workshop.

Brokers on the Bachman Furniture transaction were Mark Peltin, of Marcus & Millichap, and Brett Deter and Scott Revolinski of Founders 3. Greg Peters of Professional Construction Management is the building contractor.
