Area rankings, key players and four things to watch.
1. BROOKFIELD CENTRAL (13-1 in
2017): Last year’s Division 2 runner-up returns its top rusher, receiver and passer.
2. MUSKEGO (9-4): The Warriors’ combination of speed and power will have them in the hunt for their third Classic 8 title in five seasons.
3. FRANKLIN (10-2): The Sabers will go after their fourth straight season of double-digit wins with 14 returning starters.

5. MARQUETTE (6-5): Faster and stronger this year, the Hilltoppers are expected to give Brookfield Central a fight in the Greater Metro.
6. HOMESTEAD (9-2): Defense will set the tone as the Highlanders chase their 18th straight North Shore title.
7. SLINGER (7-4): Beating the Owls will require someone to beat them in the trenches.
8. RACINE HORLICK (10-1): The Rebels’ fortunes will depend on how quickly players from an 8-1 JV team adjust.
9. GREENDALE (9-3): The Panthers will try to build on last year’s Division 2 state quarterfinal run.
10. WAUKESHA WEST (12-1): If the lines develop, the Wolverines will again be a factor in the Classic 8.
