OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
❚ Waukesha South scored 28 points in the first half of a 42-27 victory over Oconomowoc — the Blackshirts’ first victory in a Classic 8 season opener since 2013. Senior receiver Isaiah Garcia caught seven passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns and became the school’s all-time leading receiver.
❚ Pewaukee rallied from a 19-0 deficit to defeat Milwaukee Riverside, 34-31, at home. Senior Josh Geisel scored the game-winner in the fourth quarter. Geisel (24 carries, 133 yards) and senior Masen Beatty (25 carries, 129 yards) had big days running the ball in the win.
❚ Milwaukee Hamilton senior Luke Parr completed 14 of 20 passes for 292 yards and four touchdowns in a 26-21 victory at Shoreland Lutheran. Most of those yards went to seniors Donovan Parker (seven catches, 122 yards) and Jaylen Bounds (3 for 102).
❚ The Jim Norris era at Grafton started with a 55-8 win over West Bend West. Quarterbacks Joey Giorgi and Zach Weir combined to complete 11 of 24 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns.
❚ Kewaskum junior JJ Thull ran for 236 yards on 23 carries as the Indians scored 22 unanswered points in the second half to turn a close game against Milwaukee Lutheran into a 48-30 victory.
❚ Wilmot and Kenosha Bradford just didn’t want the first week of football season to end. The two teams went into four overtimes, where a one-yard touchdown run by senior Austin Norton gave the Wilmot a 22-19 win. Bradford junior kicker Arjan Osmani sent the game into OT with a field goal with 6 seconds remaining.
❚ Lake Country Lutheran, in its first game since falling in the 2017 Division 5 state championship, looked as explosive as ever. Senior quarterback Ethan Wilkins threw for four touchdowns en route to a 53-17 victory over Mineral Point.
❚ Dominican scored on an early fourthquarter 32-yard field goal by junior Sean Dlugopolski proved to be the game-winner as the defense was strong and senior quarterback Bo Bennett was a dual threat in a 9-6 win over Assumption.
❚ Milwaukee South staged a late comeback to defeat Bay View. Trailing 34-25 with just over five minutes to play, the Cardinals drew within 34-32 on a one-yard touchdown run by Robert Jordan. With 2:16 remaining, Cenali Williams found Miguel Canalas for the game-winning 65-yard touchdown pass. Williams finished with 328 yards passing, 169 of which were to Canales.
❚ West Bend East beat Cedarburg, 37-12, despite only out-gaining the Bulldogs by 43 yards of total offense.
