Man charged in double homicide at 6th and Center

- Bruce Vielmetti

A 26-year-old Milwaukee man was charged Tuesday in last week’s double homicide on Center Street that killed two brothers.

Donnell M. Allen faces two counts of first-degree reckless homicide and one of bail jumping.

According to the criminal complaint: Two witnesses told police that a silver Chevy Impala pulled up to a residence near North 6th and West Center streets where the victims, Justin Singleton and Antonio Singleton, were hanging out in the backyard and on the back porch with other people.

Allen got out of the Impala and walked toward the group. One witness said he heard him say, “What’s up now?” before the witness, expecting trouble, went inside. Then she heard five or six gunshots.

A second witness also described Allen exiting the Impala, speaking briefly with the victims then pulling a gun and firing. The witness did not hear what was being said. Allen returned to the Impala and drove away after the shootings, the witness said.

When police arrived, Justin Singleton, 29, had died from three gunshots to the abdomen and thigh. Antonio Singleton, 40, was also shot three times, in the neck, arm and leg, and died at a hospital.

Investigators recovered seven .40caliber shell casings from the scene and later found the Impala, with Allen’s driver’s license and vehicle title application inside.

Allen was out on $3,500 bail since October in a case charging him with child abuse-recklessly causing great harm and child neglect, leading to great bodily harm.
