Beaver Dam’s Dan Woltman knows the feeling of winning the Wisconsin State Open golf title.

It’s just been a while. Woltman fired a three-under par 67 in the third round and roared to victory at North Shore Golf Club in Menasha on Wednesday.

He finished with a 273, winning by five strokes over River Falls’ Garrett Loomis.

The Beaver Dam native also won the event in 2009 and ’11.

Woltman played in three Web.com Tour events this year. He is also swinging his clubs at a high level, recently capturing titles at the Iowa Open and the Southwest Kansas ProAm.

He entered the final round trailing Jack Schultz, an amateur from Milwaukee, by one stroke. Woltman birdied three of his first four holes and then cruised to the victory.

Woltman’s lone bogey came on No. 17, when victory was all but assured. Schultz struggled to a 75 in the final round.

Appleton’s Zach Burry had the lowest round of the day, firing a 66 to end up tied for sixth place.

Woltman was a standout at the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 2009 with a major in retailing.

He finished his career with the Badgers as the school’s record holder for season and career scoring. He averaged 72.68 strokes per round as a senior and finished his career in 2009 averaging 73.28 strokes over his three-year career.

He became the first UW golfer to qualify for consecutive NCAA individual championships.

In high school, he was the state high school runner-up in 2003 and ’04.
