Offense

The junior running back has helped the Spartans emerge as one of the top teams in the Greater Metro Conference. Friday was his best day yet, a 26-carry, 314-yard performance that netted touchdowns of 23, 69 and 71 yards in a 35-6 victory over Menomonee Falls. The effort was his fourth straight 100-yard game and it raised his season total to 773 yards and nine touchdowns with an average of 8.5 yards per carry.

The Messwood seniors helped their team score a 24-21 comeback victory over South Milwaukee Friday. McDowell carried 18 times for 154 yards and scored a 79-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Eimers, the team’s quarterback, ran for a 21yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that cut the Rockets’ lead to three points and his 62-yard touchdown pass to junior Sam Campbell with about 4 minutes provided the go-ahead points.

Defense

Without a couple of big plays from the senior defensive back, West doesn’t knock off Mukwonago, 35-34, on the road Friday. Tetzlaff’s 29-yard interception return for a touchdown midway through the third quarter tied the game and his pick in the final minute sealed the Wolverines' fourth straight victory. Tetzlaff also caught four passes for 100 yards. Honorable mention

JC Latham, Catholic Memorial: The Crusaders defensive end finished with eight tackles, four for a loss, in a 26-7 victory over Sussex Hamilton Friday. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound sophomore also recorded three sacks and forced and recovered a fumble.

Special teams

Not only is the Spartans senior a force out of the backfield, ranking second in the state with 1,168 yards, but he can also hurt you on special teams. Friday he returned kickoffs of 66 and 81 yards for touchdowns in a 67-12 victory over Shoreland Lutheran.
