Man flees Tosa police, crashes

A Milwaukee man was hospitaliz­ed for injuries he suffered in a crash that ended an early Friday morning pursuit by Wauwatosa police, according to a police news release.

The man was arrested on charges of felony fleeing an officer and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicate­d (second offense). The case is being reviewed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

An officer saw a vehicle turn east onto Milwaukee Avenue from North 74th Street about 2 a.m. and accelerate rapidly, the release said.

Earlier in the evening, police learned of an attempted car theft in the same area.

“Unknown if this suspicious vehicle was related, the officer followed to investigat­e,” the release said.

The vehicle was pulled over in the 5800 block of West Vliet Street. As the officer was getting out of his patrol car, the vehicle took off driving east at a high speed, the release said.

“The suspect vehicle lost control and crashed at the intersecti­on of West Vliet and North 35th streets.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle, the release said. No one else was in the vehicle

The officer performed first aid on the man, who taken to a nearby hospital. No other vehicles were struck and no bystanders were injured.
