Zocco’s other girlfriend tells of weekend together

- Bruce Vielmetti

While prosecutors say he regularly was having dangerous sex with Kelly Dwyer in 2013, Kris Zocco also was keeping a relationship with another woman, one she thought was exclusive and heading toward marriage.

Meagan Pollock told a jury Wednesday about the last weekend she spent with Zocco, at a time when detectives believe he had already killed Dwyer, sneaked her body out of his luxury apartment and hidden it in rural Jefferson County.

Pollock said it began oddly. She had been out of town on business and yet Zocco was late for their planned dinner on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013. He said he had run sports equipment out to his mother’s house in Richfield, and blamed phone problems for not having been reachable earlier.

He arrived after 8 p.m. and ate at her condo, where he spent the night. The next morning she began a very busy day and wasn’t sure what Zocco did before they met up with another couple for dinner out on Saturday night.

On Sunday, they went to brunch alone. Pollock said her interest in moving to Colorado to be near some family had been an issue throughout their relationship, but she had recently gotten a new job that would cut her travel and keep her in Milwaukee, where she was interested in staying now because of Zocco.

But at brunch that day, Zocco suddenly suggested they move to Denver. They spent the rest of the afternoon hanging around her condo until she had to leave about 5 p.m. to drive to Chicago for a week of training.

On her way out of town, she said, she stopped at Walgreens and saw a flier about a missing woman — 27year-old Kelly Dwyer.

“It kind of rattled me,” she said. “She only lived about three blocks from me.”

But she had no idea of Zocco’s connection to Dwyer, she said, until she returned to Milwaukee the next Friday. She hadn’t been able to reach him the night before and wondered why. As she was unpacking, she saw a news story about Dwyer that showed Zocco’s apartment building and said a 38-year-old tenant had been arrested.“I got this sinking feeling in my stomach,” she said, and then learned the rest of the story.

She said she hadn’t seen Zocco again until her testimony late Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Zocco had become increasingly obsessed with asphyxia during sex, and took it too far with Dwyer. Her remains were found 19 months later, too decomposed to determine a cause of death.

Zocco admitted he and Dwyer did drugs and had sex in his apartment early on Oct. 11, but says she left around 9 a.m. Security cameras show them both entering his building, but she is never seen leaving.
