Abuse charge in suit against McCoy

-

LeSean McCoy’s ex-girlfriend says in a new court filing that the Buffalo Bills running back physically abused her during their nearly two-year relationship.

Delicia Cordon on Tuesday filed an amended lawsuit against McCoy alleging physical abuse. She also directly accuses him of arranging a July 10 home invasion at a home he owns just outside Atlanta that left her bloodied.

McCoy has repeatedly proclaimed his innocence and did so again when speaking to reporters after practice Wednesday.

A previous version of her lawsuit didn’t mention physical abuse against her and didn’t directly accuse him of playing a role in the home invasion. The new version also expands on her previous allegations that McCoy abused his young son and dog.

The amended lawsuit seeks more than $50 million in damages.

Freeman targeting Sunday return: The Atlanta Falcons expect to have running back Devonta Freeman return for Sunday’s game at the Pittsburgh Steelers after missing three games with a sore right knee.

Coach Dan Quinn said Freeman, the team’s leading rusher each of the last three years, would have full clearance “without any setbacks.”

There was no report of a setback, but Freeman was listed as limited on the team’s practice report, just as he was late last week.

Freeman was upbeat before the practice.

“I feel really good,” Freeman said. “Coming back and doing something I really love to do is always a good time. I’m just excited to be back.”

Freeman said he’s confident he is “comfortable enough to be back out there.”

Burfict back with Bengals: Bengals coach Marvin Lewis knew that linebacker Vontaze Burfict was back when he felt his feet leave the floor.

Burfict, who has been suspended repeatedly in his career, rejoined the team after completing a four-game ban for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancers. He made quite an entrance.

“When he came up from behind and picked me up off the floor on Monday, I knew it could only be one person,” Lewis said Wednesday.

Burfict practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play on Sunday against Miami when the Bengals try to get their defense in order with their most notable player back in place. It’s the fourth straight season that Burfict has sat out because of injury or suspension.

Garoppolo has knee surgery: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo underwent reconstructive surgery on his injured left knee.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Garoppolo had the operation to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament on Wednesday. Shanahan said he didn’t know whether any additional damage needed to be repaired or know whether Garoppolo would be recovered in time for the off-season program next spring.

Garoppolo injured his knee on Sept. 23 in Kansas City when he tried to plant and cut up field instead of running out of bounds late in a loss to the Chiefs. Garoppolo is in the first season of a five-year, $137.5 million contract.
