2011 fan favorite ‘Tony Plush’ returns to throw out ceremonial first pitch.

Tony Plush was back in the house Thursday.

Nyjer Morgan, the energetic fan favorite of the 2011 Milwaukee Brewers — immortalized by his game-winning single that lifted the Brewers to a walk-off win in Game 5 of the National League Division Series — was a surprise guest at Miller Park. He threw out a ceremonial first pitch before the Brewers kicked off their 2018 NLDS battle with the Colorado Rockies.

“It feels really good to be back in the 4-1-4,” Morgan said before the game. “This is basically a family. There’s so much energy, just to see you guys. I’m just so excited just to be back . ... Everything is a dream come true, and I’m just so glad to see these gentlemen go out there and work hard.”

Morgan was acquired by then-general manager Doug Melvin in the final days before the 2011 season opener from the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor-leaguer Cutter Dykstra. Morgan thrived in Milwaukee, batting .304 for the year with four homers, 37 RBI and a .778 OPS. All the while, he charmed fans with his brash personality and alter-ego, self-titled “Tony Plush.”

“I was part of losing seasons, 100 games, and it sucked, but at the end of the day, coming over here when I came to Milwaukee in 2011 ... that was a beautiful thing,” Morgan said.

He wasn’t always beloved by opposing teams, but he certainly captured the attention of Milwaukeeans. The love affair only grew when his single up the middle in the 10th inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks sent Milwaukee to the NL Championship Series.

Morgan also played in 122 games for the Brewers in 2012, then saw action in 15 games with the Cleveland Indians in 2014. He also played baseball in Japan and Mexico.
