John Gurda’s demonizing
John Gurda’s letter to the editor on Oct. 28 (“Walker’s World”) demonizing Gov. Scott Walker and praising Tony Evers was not only inaccurate, but also disgusting. Expressing his affection for Evers is one thing, but couldn’t he have accomplished this same feat without a venom-filled diatribe against Walker.
I can’t help but wonder where Gurda has been living these past eight years. I have seen a different state government other than the one he would seek to destroy. I won’t cite the many accomplishments of Walker’s administration, as that would be like a tit for tat.
However, I will reflect on Walker’s human side, a side that Gurda tries to vilify. I am a Vietnam veteran and a member of the Honor Guard for the Nation of Patriots tour. I couldn’t have been prouder of Walker when he attended one of our ceremonies. In fact, Attorney General Brad Schimel even rode with us on one occasion. The Nation of Patriots tour raises funds for the families of wounded veterans, and their participation truly showed compassion, concern and caring for our wounded veterans.
Also, having been in law enforcement for 30 years, I have witnessed numerous occasions when Walker and Schimel did not merely talk the talk but did walk the walk. I have and continue to appreciate the contributions made by these two individuals to help our officers be the best and safest they can be.
I do firmly believe in our democracy, and I won’t kick, scream, demean or call the opposition names. I was always taught, “if you can’t say anything nice about somebody don’t say anything at all.”
