Muskego’s Krause is WFCA coach of year
The accolades just keep coming for the Muskego football team.
Following a week when multiple players were honored for all-state performances and the Warriors won the Division 1 state championship, Ken Krause was named the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association coach of the year.
Krause led Muskego to a 14-0 season, capped last Friday with a 24-21 win over Kimberly to win the first state title in program history.
“When a coach wins a coach of the year award, to me, it’s a staff of the year award,” Krause said. “I have a lot of former players that played for me, a lot of guys that played for Muskego. There’s just a ton of pride in our program.
“I think it’s also a community award. Our youth program I sincerely believe is the best in the state (and) we really feel our program starts in first grade. We really have 85 coaches in first through 12th grade, and we are all connected.”
Krause took over the head coaching job at Muskego in 2008, following a 2-7 season for the Warriors. Muskego has qualified for the playoffs seven times in his tenure and has won at least one game in five of those postseason appearances.
Krause and his staff oversee a program of 155 players, including a varsity roster of 85. His assistant coaching staff includes Jason Henneberry, Dan Mlachnik, Rob Domenosky, Eric Hetzel, Troy Mendez, Tyler Kunick, Ryan Lucchesi, Collin Smith, Larry Meeks, Ryan Nault, Nick Schmidlkofer, Jeff Huckstorf, Jeff Wagner, Larry Milton, and Mike Taake.
